Welcome to the Hidden Glen

Hello, welcome to The Hidden Glen

My curated little corner of the internet where I share my little discoveries and may occasionally just talk nonsense.

Right. Here we are. I've spent a frankly unreasonable amount of time thinking about what Hidden Glen is supposed to be.

Is it a lifestyle site? A magazine? A collection of things I like? A very elaborate excuse to tell people about nice cafes? Probably all of those.

What I do know is that the internet has become very good at telling us how we should be living.

  • Wake up at 5am.

  • Drink the green thing.

  • Don’t drink the green thing.

  • Buy a £700 laser hair removal gun and a butterfly cardigan

Honestly, I can't be arsed.I like the kind of internet where you find something and think: “Well, that’s a bit of me.”

  • A B&B you'd never heard of.

  • A cool shop

  • A song that makes you want to get in the car and belt at the top of your lungs

  • A ridiculous jumper.

  • A really good coffee.

That's the stuff I'm interested in, because sometimes having an interesting life means going somewhere you've never been, finding a brilliant new recipe and making it terribly, buying the stupid thing you've been thinking about for six months because, you deserve the stupid thing, godamnit!

Sometimes it means going down an internet rabbit hole because you suddenly need to know why an abandoned building has a youtube series, and now you’ve virtually walked down several creepy abandoned shopping centres and discovered the home of the Teletubbies is now a pond. I wanted to create a place for all of that. We'll talk about places, food, books, films, music, homes, clothes, people, ideas, things worth buying and things that are too interesting not to investigate.

I want to create a place where people discover things because someone dared to raise their head up from their phone like a brazen giraffe and notice the little things. That’s what we’re hiding here, the stuff you might not notice.
